VIN Country-of-Assembly Helper

A local browser tool that checks whether a 17-character VIN begins with the identifier allocated to Canada.

By Evan R. MacAllisterReviewed August 3, 2026General information

The first three VIN positions form the World Manufacturer Identifier. A first character of 2 indicates Canada. This can support a Canadian final-assembly statement, but it does not measure parts content, engineering, ownership, or overall economic contribution.

Enter a VIN to begin.

Use the result carefully

Confirm the exact car with the certification label, current manufacturer plant information, and a trusted VIN decoder. The 11th VIN character is often associated with a plant code, but codes are manufacturer-specific and should not be guessed from a generic chart.

Privacy noteDo not post a full VIN publicly. This tool processes the characters locally in your browser.
