Use the VIN for recall checks
Model-wide recall lists are useful, but the exact VIN is the proper way to determine whether a particular car is included and whether a repair remains outstanding. Use Transport Canada and the manufacturer’s Canadian recall tools.
Understand driver-assistance limits
Automatic emergency braking, lane support, blind-spot warnings, parking sensors, and adaptive cruise are assistance systems. Weather, dirt, glare, road markings, blocked sensors, trailers, and unusual traffic can limit them.
Compare equipment, not package names
Similar marketing names can hide different sensors, speeds, or operating conditions. Read the owner’s manual and confirm which features are standard on the exact trim.
Safety includes basic fit and maintenance
Visibility, tires, brakes, lights, wipers, seating position, head restraints, and correct child-seat use remain essential. A high rating does not compensate for poor maintenance or misuse.
