What front-wheel drive offers
FWD packages the engine and driven wheels together, often reducing weight and complexity. With appropriate tires, it can be predictable and capable for many maintained Canadian roads.
What all-wheel drive offers
AWD can distribute propulsion to more wheels and improve the ability to move away on slippery surfaces. Systems differ widely: some are continuously active, while others engage the second axle only when conditions or controls demand it.
What neither system changes
Both rely on four tire contact patches for braking and cornering. AWD does not shorten stopping distance by itself, restore worn tread, improve visibility, or create ground clearance.
